Overview

Babcock International contacted us in 2014 with a requirement for metalworking machinery after being awarded a five year joint naval contract with BAE Systems, worth a combined £3.2 billion, for engineering support for the construction of the bow section and final assembly and completion of the HMS Queen Elizabeth at Rosyth Royal Dockyard.

Challenge

Babcock were completely overhauling their berth J and K workshops in time for the HMS Queen Elizabeth’s move from dock No. 1 to the main tidal basin, and required a local machinery dealer to provide machinery that fitted their workshop and application requirements.

Result & Benefits

Through purchasing new machinery from RS Machinery, Babcock were able to create two brand new workshops with new machinery right next to the HMS Queen Elizabeth, which meant less walking time between the ship and the workshops and therefore increased productivity levels. On 26th June 2017, the HMS Queen Elizabeth set sail from Rosyth Royal Dockyard into the Firth of Forth to commence sea trials in the North Sea.
