Yesterday, 26th June 2017, history was made with the launch of the HMS Queen Elizabeth from Rosyth to commence the first stage of sea trials off the North East of Scotland. Proud to play a small part in the construction of HMS Queen Elizabeth, RS Machinery provided Babcock, a partner in the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, with metalworking machinery for ? quayside support workshops. The largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth is 280 m in length and is capable of carrying up to forty aircraft. Approached by Babcock back in 2014, RS Machinery provided the Aircraft Carrier Alliance - a unique partnership between BAE Systems, Thales UK, Babcock and the Ministry of Defence - with ?, ?, ? and ? for ? quayside support workshops at Rosyth dockyard. Commenting on the project, RS Machinery’s Sales Director, John Ross said: “We are proud to support both the Royal Navy and the HMS Queen Elizabeth with workshop machinery". Prior to providing machinery for HMS Queen Elizabeth, RS Machinery has provided machinery for workshops on board HMS Invincible, commissioned in 1980 and HMS Illustrious, commissioned in 1982.
